Model turned photographer Helena Christensen's first hand experience of devastating effects
Danish supermodel-turned-snapper, Helena Christensen, has unveiled a series of photographs she has taken documenting how climate change has impacted on her mother’s native country, Peru.
The photographs – which can be seen in our photo gallery on this site – depict people suffering from food and water scarcity in the face of rising temperatures, changing seasons and melting glaciers. An exhibition of the photographs opens in London today.
Christensen commented: “For so many of us climate change is a distant idea belonging in the future, but for millions of people in developing countries it is a devastating reality.”
She was speaking ahead of the Copenhagen climate summit in December, and has urged people to take part in The Wave, Scotland’s biggest ever demonstration in support of action on climate change, in Glasgow, on December 5.
Simultaneous demonstrations will be held in London and other cities around Europe.
