What We Do
The Big Issue in Scotland was established in 1993 as a means for homeless people to earn a basic living and re-establish their self esteem.
Since 1993, The Big Issue in Scotland has been a means for anyone
who's experiencing homelessness, or is vulnerably housed, to get
themselves back on their feet. Find out more about the
history of The Big Issue here
Our vendors buy the magazine from us for 70p and sell it to the public for £1.50, earning a direct 80p profit.
Big Issue vendors are working, not begging, and they are not
soliciting donations. We ask that you respect this and don't
just give money to our salespeople. If you want to help, please
buy and read the magazine.
We work closely with other organisations for homeless people, ensuring our vendors get the assistance they need to stabilise their lives.
Our outreach teams also work closely with local hostels and temporary accommodation, as well as with councils and police, to ensure our vendors can sell their magazines safely and confidently on their pitch
